BBC Interview of SpOC
Recent BBC coverage revealed Delta 7 personnel at the 74th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Squadron using KeepTrack to visualize and learn about an increasingly "congested and contested" space environment. As Col Hauser explained the growing threats from foreign adversaries, KeepTrack provided the visualizations personnel were using to understand complex space domain challenges. This follows our previous coverage of the 18th Space Defense Squadron's use of KeepTrack for similar training and education purposes.
Learning About a "Congested and Contested" Space Environment
As space becomes increasingly militarized, Delta 7 uses KeepTrack's visualization capabilities to better understand the complex threat landscape. Their team studies over 11,000 satellites while focusing on concerning developments like "satellites with grappling hooks that can pull other satellites out of orbit" deployed by foreign adversaries. KeepTrack's ability to visualize complex orbital interactions helps members understand the implications of these new space-based capabilities and the challenges they present in this contested environment.Training and Education in Delta 7
At the 74th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Squadron's operations center, known as "The Wolf Den," KeepTrack serves as a tool for space domain awareness learning. The platform's intuitive interface allows students and trainees to explore orbital patterns, study potential scenarios, and learn about the movements of various space assets while developing foundational knowledge needed to comprehend emerging challenges in the space domain.Understanding "Dogfighting in Space"
As one senior Space Force leader described the future of space conflict as "dogfighting in space," KeepTrack provides tools to help personnel understand this evolving domain. While the U.S. Space Force is "already sparring in the cyber domain and the space domain," our platform helps members visualize and comprehend the three-dimensional complexity of orbital mechanics, demonstrating scenarios where space assets may be directly threatened by adversaries like China and Russia.Educational Value Across USSF Units
The BBC's coverage of Delta 7 builds on previous documentation of KeepTrack's use by the 18th Space Defense Squadron, demonstrating the platform's educational value across multiple Space Force units. Our open-source tool provides comprehensive space domain visualization that helps personnel understand complex orbital environments, from space surveillance training to intelligence analysis education, while maintaining the flexibility needed to help members grasp rapidly changing space environments. The fact that Delta 7 uses KeepTrack in their operations does not imply or constitute DoD endorsement.
